Monthly Recap - March 2026

Welcome back to another month of Kylie Rose Writes!

handwritten picture taped to the wall reading, "you got this!"

Lets start with looking back on the goals we set in February to see how well we fared this month...

  1. Read more Books. (For the obscene amount of books I own, I do not read enough to keep up with my purchasing habits.)

    1. Goal: at least 1 (preferably 2).

  2. Write more. This goes for everything; creative writing, blog posts, newsletters... all of it.

  3. Manage my stress and take time to enjoy the little things.

    1. I played Stardew Valley for three hours last night and it was only because I was reminded of the importance of taking breaks, and that I am more than just my productivity.

  4. Prioritize myself over my accomplishments.

    1.  By this I mean self care and keeping an eye on my mental state to avoid burnout. I do plan on starting a travelers journal sometime this month to help manage stress and anxiety.

Now that we have that out of the way, lets dive deeper into each of them!

Goal One: Reading More.

The first one talked about in the last monthly recap was reading more books and I set a number to strive for (1 or 2). I have read one book, and I am almost finished with the second and third. This month I read or started...

Finished:

Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer

Started:

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

There is a blog post reviewing Annihilation, and there will be reviews for the other books too! (I mean once I actually get around to finishing them). You can find the first one here.

I have also started a book club for the Mass Multiverse to prepare for the new releases of ACOTAR! You can join the club for a lil bit of shelf care here! The dates are merely suggestive, obviously the goal is to have the book finished by the date listed... but look at me, its April 1st and I still haven't finished the first TOG book.

That is goal one, met. Check ✓.

Goal Two: Write More.

Did I slightly fall behind my expectations that I originally wanted for March? Yes, yes I did, but that is life. It gets crazy and unruly, and doesn't wait to see if you're still on the bull as it continues to try and buck you off. Let's see some writing stats from March...

STONEHEART MANUSCRIPT: 1,474 words

ROYAL PROPHECY MANUSCRIPT: 373 words

BLOG POSTS: 3 (if you include this one... 4)

NEWSLETTERS/EMAILS: 2

SCHOOL ASSIGNMENTS: 8

POEMS WRITTEN: 6

SHORT STORIES STARTED: 1

Although I may not have had set goals for this section, I am proud at the amount of creativity I was able to produce. I am still working past my crippling perfectionism and trying to juggle letting myself take rest days and only write a few words even on the tough days.

I would consider this goal another win. Check ✓.

Goal Three: Stress Management.

Stress management is always an ongoing task for me. I will gladly say we have made it through the month without a major break down or an excessive amount of burn out. So, YAY that is a win. For all my perfectionist, OCD and anxiety girlies, we know how hard that may be from time to time.

I will say I think something that has been really helping me is only having one class to finish off my educational career. With just the one class, I have been giving myself more time to debate creatively with myself before an assignment is due and work on it at my own pace throughout the week.

I also think that giving myself time to read and take a break has also severely helped. I have noticed that my mind going immediately into creative mode as I read. Yes I am absorbing the story, but the writer in me continues to look for plot points, stylistic choices and strong character development. I don't think that is what comes to mind when I say it's a leisurely read, but I am a bit of a weirdo.

Stress Management... still a work in progress, but I'd still give myself a gold star.

Goal Four: Priorities.

I am still working on making myself a priority. I feel like I am doing better this month with putting my needs first: my reading, my passion... I also started drinking more water (which is really insane for a coffee addict).

I also started that Traveler's Journal, but more of a placeholder amazon brand.... the brand is irrelevant, what matters is that I started. I will always preach about how amazing journaling is for anxiety and stress. It allows the feelings to become something tangible and as a writer, I can separate myself from my writing enough to plan a course of action through the stressors I am pouring out on to paper.

Another part of the journal I find very helpful, is a daily space for gratitude or reflection. It allows me to filter the lens in which I am viewing the world, or more simply my day. It gives it more of a "rose colored" hue rather than focusing on all the loaming storm clouds and worrying if it'll rain-hopefully that analogy makes sense.

My mom also introduced me to an amazing song that is highly motivating.

I Love Me, LOUD by China Styles

If you haven't listened to it before, DO IT NOW. It is about putting yourself first and loving yourself with respect and without allowing the expectations of others and society. Plus it's upbeat, the girlies will like it.

Just like goal three, this one is still a work in progress. However, slow progress is still progress.

Now that we're done with the Monthly Recap. lets look forward...

With looking towards April for more goals, I think I am going to keep the previous goals on the docket for this month, too.

  1. Read more books.

  2. Write more of everything.

  3. Manage my Stress.

  4. Prioritize myself. (Alexa play I Love Me, Loud.)

I also want to add in that I want to branch out more with my social media and curate some new fun posts, but I have been finding that social media carries a lot of anxiety for me. We'll see how this new goal number five goes... wish me luck.

  1. Social Media Upkeep.

What are some goals you have for April? Let me know in the comments.

Also, please let me know if you have any helpful tips and tricks to this whole social media thing. Bonus points if you share any content ideas or things you want to see!

xx,

Kylie Rose
