Hi there!
Since we are all filling out our planners for the month of March, I figured it would be a good time to reflect on February and set some new goals to make some progress on!
Let's get out our note pad and see how it went...
Educational Progress and Goals
I am still chipping away at the tail end of my bachelor's degree as an fully online student. By the end of February I had finished the second to last term before graduation.
It was a lot harder than I made it seem.
If we rewind back to the term before (so two terms back, which is about 4 months), I ended up failing a creative writing course and it really stopped me in my tracks. It was right before Christmas, and made me second guess a lot of my creativeness and writing abilities. It ended up amplifying the pressure to succeed and my perfectionism tendencies these past two months. I found myself full of self-doubt and holding my breath every time I received a grade notification.
This is where we create a plan, and don't allow ourselves to be
overcome by these negative feelings.
Moving into March, and this new term, I am retaking that previous class I failed. It is scary and I will say I am beyond stressed about it, but I have a strong plan in place to help shake off those scary stressors, and keep my mind motivated productively and positively.
The Plan...
Write everything down. The first of March hit, and I was at my desk with my planner writing everything that I needed to remember for my classes down. I made a plan of attack and noted important documents and resources to reference back to when I got to specific dates and assignments.
This works best for me to be able to see everything in one place. I am able to see heavier work weeks for school and plan my life around it. For example, making sure I am ahead enough to not stress about school for Holidays or birthdays. This works primarily well on paper, I am still working out the kinks in practice.
Getting slightly ahead on the "side quests" for the class.
"Side Quests" in terms of school are the assignments that aren't essential to the development of the creative works for the final assignment... In my case; textbook readings, discussion posts (& responses to my peers), etc.)
PLAN PLAN PLAN creative works.
I have to write poems, and a fiction story that feeds off of said poems for this class. If being a creative major has taught me anything it is that I am not a pantser. I need to have stories laid out with themes, character boards, and a general idea for at least one major plot point. I am nothing without my outlines.
The most important part of this plan is to rely on my support systems.
If I feel myself getting overwhelmed, I make sure I reach out for sounding boards. I also am grateful to have creatives that I surround myself with that are willing to help me take a step back and view my work from different angles. Y'all know who you are and if you're reading this... Hi! Thank you for everything.
Life Wrap Up and Goals
Besides school, I do work a regular office 9-5. Cue Dolly Parton's 9-5. Working in sales and marketing allows me to get an inside look at how I should be promoting myself and my writing to the world. That being said it also allows me to see what not to do as well.
Between working fulltime, and also being a fulltime student, you might think I don't have very much time on my hands... and you would be right.
However, if you are building the rest of your life and pursing your dreams is there a problem with that? I vote no.
So if you're reading this and you're as stressed out and overloaded as I am... you're doing amazing and keep up the hard work. I am rooting for you.
MARCH GOALS
Read more Books. (For the obscene amount of books I own, I do not read enough to keep up with my purchasing habits.)
Goal: at least 1 (preferably 2).
Write more. This goes for everything; creative writing, blog posts, newsletters... all of it.
Manage my stress and take time to enjoy the little things.
I played Stardew Valley for three hours last night and it was only because I was reminded of the importance of taking breaks, and that I am more than just my productivity.
Prioritize myself over my accomplishments.
By this I mean self care and keeping an eye on my mental state to avoid burnout. I do plan on starting a travelers journal sometime this month to help manage stress and anxiety. Let me know if you're interested in learning about my journal set up in the comments!
Alrighty my lovely nerds, don't forget to...

And now that I talked about all my progress and goals, feel free to let me know some of your goals for March in the comments!
